About

From ambiguity to clarity. From clarity to action.

Our approach

Culbin Advisory exists for the moments when the stakes shift. When a startup needs to find product-market fit or scale beyond what got it here. When a product team needs a strategy that holds up under pressure. When an established organisation needs to fundamentally rethink how it builds and delivers.

We bring an outside perspective grounded in direct experience — not frameworks or processes for the sake of it. Practical thinking drawn from building and scaling products across AI, marketplaces, and regulated industries. We've sat in the seat, made the hard calls, and learned from the ones that didn't work out.

Our engagements are collaborative, not prescriptive. We work alongside your team, not above them. The best advisory relationships are the ones where the advisor eventually makes themselves unnecessary — and that's what we aim for.

Background

Culbin Advisory was founded by Matt Fenby Taylor, a product and technology leader with over two decades of experience across startups, scale-ups, and global organisations.

Matt has led product teams at SoundCloud, Skyscanner, and ClearScore, driven digital transformation at Sony, and works hands-on as a product and technology advisor to early-stage ventures. His expertise spans AI, marketplaces, and regulated industries including fintech and healthcare.

An Edinburgh Astrophysics graduate who teaches product strategy at Future London Academy, Matt brings a non-linear thinking style that connects dots others miss. He is as comfortable navigating a board meeting as he is rolling up his sleeves in a sprint review.

He has no patience for organisational theatre or corporate politics. Just honest assessment, clear thinking, and a bias for getting things done.

The name

Culbin Forest sits on the Moray coast near Nairn in the Scottish Highlands — a part of the world close to Matt's heart. Once a vast estate buried by sandstorms in the late 17th century, it was reclaimed and replanted throughout the 20th century. Today it's one of the largest forests in Scotland — a landscape transformed through patience, persistence, and long-term thinking.

It's not a bad metaphor for what we do. Building something lasting takes time, the right foundations, and the conviction to keep going when progress isn't immediately visible.

Let's talk about what you're building

Every engagement starts with a conversation. No pitch decks, no pressure — just an honest discussion about where you are and where you want to get to.
